These are unprecedented times for every one of us, what with the constant barrage of negative press around Covid or a new variant it does make you wonder if we are ever going to wake up thinking how wonderful it is to hear the sound of birds singing on a beautiful sunny morning, without the next thought of the day being about another overwhelming story or something new that has come out in the news recently.

We must find ways to fill our time or distract ourselves from things that are difficult to handle, because in these brief moments of respite we can allow ourselves to regroup, find quiet space with time to unwind, or simply enjoy a pastime that makes us feel calmer, more creative or practice something that makes us feel great and at peace with the world around us.

This is why Sophrology has been the best ‘holistic tonic’ during this year – listening to the recordings provided by my Sophrologist, her voice calming in this age of pandemic and changes working through these guided practices, each of which work to bring out positivity in the mind and body, especially important and kept me level headed during these strange times when I could have been overwhelmed by more updates about Covid infection rates going up…again!

However, I have remained upbeat throughout these times with the confidence to say I feel very in tune, balanced emotionally and yes, thanks to practicing Sophrology I do feel much more positive about life. This practice involves very small movements that are easy to follow with breathing and visualisation techniques that, together, form a 15mins practice that can benefit our wellbeing.

It has also ignited the creative side of my personality, something I have not indulged in for many years. The paints dried up long ago, the old paint brushes and canvas’ need replacing but I am excited about starting these again, spend time painting or crafting for my own wellbeing through creativity is as good for you as mindfulness – when we are transported to a place of calm with the task at hand we become fully immersed in the experience.

This is what mindfulness means and that is what Sophrology is, so it has enabled me to feel free again which is something special and joyful providing me with the ability to relax when life gets tough bringing pure enjoyment from creativity and living life to the full.
