Now, let’s pause a moment…this is not another post about the latest exercise or fitness regime, and it’s not about the best walks around Britain or the newest dance craze or running app, although these things are obviously very good for you! This is referring to movement, not as you might typically expect with regards to movement of the body, but it is referring to a truly amazing, deeply relaxing alternative form of movement for the body! Please read on…

Mindfulness has been a revelation to me in terms of what it can bring us all but Sophrology, which is also a type of mindfulness, takes it to another level where you can step it up a gear to experience increased feelings of happiness and joy! But how does that really work and what is the real secret to feeling joy in life? Is there a special trick that can help you feel happier and what is the best way to get that in your life? Well, this can be revealed simply by understanding about how our brain works and interacts with our body, because through guided movement and regular practice you will begin to notice sensations through deeper awareness of your body & mind that will produce feelings of pure joy!

Sophrology is practised sat down in a chair and occasionally standing up, then lightly placing your fingertips on each of the Chakra points in turn, you bring your awareness to those regions of the body ie the forehead, the neck and throat area, the chest, the upper abs, lower abs and the naval. Each point representing different areas of the body and focusing on the breath at the same time. Added to this, we also include several pauses known as ‘Integration Pauses’ that happen throughout the practice after a sequence of guided breathing and movement when we sit quietly for a few moments to reflect upon all or any sensations that you may or may not notice…and nothing is fine btw!

Not a bad start or end to your day and very much influenced by what you need, but most of all it has the benefit of relaxing your body & mind so you have a more positive day ahead and sleep more soundly at night! This practice is known as Dynamic Relaxation and it is applied in layers to enhance a persons own experience which includes using a journal to note down any feelings or sensations felt during the integration pauses that reinforces your practice more fully.

A very powerful practice, it has the potential to improve your outlook on life as well as benefiting your health & wellbeing, by rebalancing the positive vs the negative experiences of life. So ‘The Art of Movementis movement that allows the mind-body connection to flow bringing with it a deeper sense of awareness and understanding that makes you feel increased levels of happiness & joy so you can flourish in life!
