Inner Strength Beyond Natural Wellbeing.

During the pandemic period I was furloughed which meant making certain adjustments as everybody did, addressing changes to our lifestyle, our jobs, our futures, businesses and working practices, all these things have been a testament to our resilience, because you like me probably wondered what was going to happen next?

It was during that time that I stumbled across a guided audio recording online that incorporated a visualisation, using the analogy of ‘filling up your bucket’, which at the time did seem a little odd, especially for someone like me who hardly ever did mindfulness but looking back I believe this exercise was referring to our ‘Inner Energy’. It created a very powerful moment when my body connected in physical way to the visualisation being described and I am sharing what I recall of the practice with you starting with a body scan…

Start laying on the floor, both arms totally relaxed by your side, then relax each limb one by one, maybe tensing then releasing them in turn, so starting with the head, then the eyes and nose…notice the air going in, and the air going out, relax your mouth and jaw, your neck and throat, your back, chest and middle part of your body, the upper abdomen the lower abdomen, your thighs, knees, lower legs, feet, ankles and toes…

Then lay very still, imagine yourself carrying an empty bucket…it can be as beautiful and as elaborate as you like, or very plain and simple…but it is up to you, it is your bucket. And after a few minutes or so, take that bucket and fill it to the top with water, being careful not to overfill it…you don’t want it overflowing, but really notice the weight, the sound of water swishing around from side to side in the bucket, being very careful to not spill a drop, and really feeling and noticing the pail of water as it swings and sways with the motion of the water within it…

Then, still with your eyes closed, raise your knees to the ceiling, bringing your feet towards your bottom, if you are able and comfortable doing that, now lifting your hips off the floor towards the ceiling, into the bridge position, arms resting by your sides.

The next part of the recording continued to relax me, then much to my surprise and without any warning or effort on my part, the lower half of my body started to swing from side to side like a pendulum, as if propelled by the momentum of the water in my imaginary bucket…this went on for quite a few minutes then slowly slowly, just as quickly as it began the water emptied from my bucket, and the swinging ceased, balance was fully restored, I then lowered my body back to the starting position, taking some time to notice all sensations experienced during the exercise…

This practice took 45mins to complete, and it was one of the first times I was fully aware of the power of my own inner energy, understanding more how powerful mastering ‘Inner Strength Beyond Natural Wellbeing‘ can be!
