STR your Stress!

One of the fundamentals of Sophrology, this is something we do in order to relax and focus our attention, preparing us at the beginning of the practice, it enables you to relax, release and let go!

Sophro Tension Release (STR)

It forms part of the beginning of our practice, focussing our inner awareness, we incorporate the breath with every movement. Usually standing, but this can also be done seated if that feels comfortable for you.

The INTEGRATION POINTS are specific points on the body that are based around the Chakra regions of the body:

  • 1st SystemThe Head – fingertips on the forehead
  • 2nd SystemNeck & shoulders, back of the arms & hands
  • 3rd SystemChest area, shoulders, arms, hands & fingers
  • 4th SystemMiddle abs between the sternum & the naval
  • 5th SystemLower abs, the area beneath the belly button
  • 6th SystemThe Whole Body – fingertips on the naval

Similar to a traditional Body Scan, we work from the forehead, the 1st System, through to the navel, the 6th System, and work through each of the Integration Points in turn.

Breathe out…through the mouth…breath in…through the nose…lift your hands up above your head, stretch, stretch, stretch and tense the whole body…tense, tense, tense, tense, tense…then release, bringing your hands down to the Integration Point of the 1st System…relaxing, releasing, and letting go…place your fingertips on the centre of the forehead, breathe out…relax, release, and let go of any tensions...

Repeat with the breath and move down to the next system, then placing your fingertips lightly on each of the bodies other systems: The Neck, the Chest, Middle abs, Lower abs, until you reach the 6th System, the naval, Whole Body.

This works by relaxing you fully in readiness for the next step which could vary from exercises for one of the systems, or we might do a visualisation, or perhaps show gratitude for someone or something we love. By noticing how this affected us in the past, to being aware of how this affects us now, to what it represents for us in the future is a key part of the process.

It is great to practice 3-4 times a week to maintain a sense of Aliveness as this enables you to notice how the energies play out in your life, giving you insight into how it benefits your happiness and wellbeing, teaching you to have trust and confidence in yourself, preparing you for the day ahead!

A regular practice of just 15mins a day is enough to cement this type of practice more fully into your life!

Journalling your experience will also cement the practise for a deeper meaning.
