Unlocking the past can be positive and negative, but dealing with anything that is challenging or hard to address is difficult, so whatever the cause, it is still possible to find happiness…
This was the case for me until a few years ago having suffered from nocturnal epilepsy since my late twenties, I found it hard to accept or admit to others what I was going through. Epilepsy is such a taboo subject that I did not want it to impact on my job, and I worried about not getting the same recognition as others because of it. As a result, I have hidden it from my employers in the past, never telling anyone at work and I suspect my experience is not dissimilar to other people’s who have had their own issues to deal with in life.
“It is not about what we go through that’s hard, it’s finding the right tools to help us to learn how to find a way through the tough times that matters!“
I have attempted various relaxation methods in the past such as Ayurveda, yoga, Pilates, massage therapy and meditation amongst other things, but when it came to getting a good nights sleep I had to find something else. Nocturnal epilepsy can be very challenging to live with everyday and that is why I started practising Sophrology, a form of mindfulness that promotes Dynamic Relaxation and it has helped me overcome the challenges I faced, so I feel happier and more able to cope.
Sophrology, does not claim to be the next miracle cure but it does have the capacity to delve into your negative thoughts, it teaches you ways to recognise them and gives you the tools you need to make mind-body connections that shed a positive light on them, enhancing your life through guided practices that work long after the sessions have ended!
“We hold on to negativity so by releasing those feelings, we refocus our awareness, enabling us to restore feelings of positivity so we can live a happier life!”
The Sophro Balance course I do is called the Holistic Body, it works using the 6 Integration Points, very similar to the Chakras of the body, these are the key points of the body we work with, using guided breathing with movement and visualisation techniques, that reveal layers of positivity through specific parts of the body:
- 1st System – The Head
- 2nd System – The Neck & Throat
- 3rd System – The Chest Area
- 4th System – The Upper Abdomen
- 5th System – The Lower Abdomen
- 6th System – The Whole Body
It is through these regular practices that you will begin to see a transformation in your mindset, you become more relaxed and that brings together a positive shift to your daily life, meaning that life becomes easier to manage everyday.
