Today a period of change and transition for women can only be a good thing…being free to enjoy the Menopause is something we must learn to embrace…MORE!

It is one of the biggest topics growing at the moment, particularly in the workplace, with companies and managers beginning to recognise that women in this older, more experienced phase of their life, need understanding with more facilities to access assistance that will help them succeed.

This is great news and one that I am fully in agreement with, but there are a many other things you can do to start the process of self-care that will enhance your life now.  We must make sure we build strong foundations for ‘Inner Strength Beyond Natural Wellbeing’, which applies to women of all ages…Diversify your Menopause is an ideal way to prepare you for that.

Make your menopause experience easier by adding some of these basic things to your daily routine.  It is worth noting that it is not necessarily just due to age, menopause can be brought on early for some women due to other health problems such as treatment for cancer or ovarian issues for example.

These hints & tips offer suggestions to help you on your menopause journey:

  • NUTRITION:  The Mediterranean Diet is thought to provide many of the essential nutrients you need to function well.  Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, lean proteins from fish and poultry, good fats from olive oil and some dairy, and limit your consumption of sugar, red meat, alcohol and caffeine.
  • EXERCISE:  Some think that women over 55yrs have no place in the gym or working out is not for the older person…NOT SO!!  Finding something you enjoy is not only beneficial for your mental wellbeing, but any physical activity will be good for you.  Try weight-bearing exercises such as resistance exercises, with weights (or a couple of tin cans), or join a class locally will also help you.
  • SUPPLEMENTS:  If you are not getting your bloods done as standard for levels of calcium and iron etc, then it is worth considering, taking vitamin D for your bones,  multi-vitamins or B vitamins which are good for your energy levels but most importantly consult your health practitioner in case they have recommendations for you.
  • WELLBEING:  Several things you could do here, this is an open book in terms of what is out there for menopausal women and a highly recommended way to enjoy life more, whether through therapy, long walks, the senses, massage, mindfulness, meditation, yoga or martial arts programs.  Joining a class near you with a mutual interest can be good for your wellbeing!
  • SLEEP:  A massive thing that affects many women but not all women, are night sweats and insomnia although not felt by everyone it is worth considering mindfulness or meditation practices that can enable you to relax more deeply.  Doing these breathing exercises relaxes your mind when you can’t switch off in the middle of the night, and something we focus on in Sophro Balance.
  • STRESS:  Reduced levels of oestrogen cause anxiety levels to rise, and this can be a very stressful time, causing your self-confidence and self-belief to suffer as a result.  You may be prone to bouts of emotional stress which can be tough, however Sophro Balance has the potential to overcome that stress, making your journey a happier, more balanced experience, so contact me for details on how you can do that below.

Sophro Balance practices has kept my emotions in check, and I feel great as a result, but if trying something new seems daunting then I am happy to hold free taster sessions online for you to try…

Remember, your experience will empower other women so feel free to comment or share this with your friends who are in a similar place to you and together we will change people’s attitude towards menopause for the future!
