
‘Flow’ is the spice of life…
Armed with the right tools you can achieve anything in life with ease which can bring about great happiness and joy but we need to understand how to ‘unleash’ our capacity to live in flow by maximising our inner potential.
Flow takes on many forms, such as a river that flows into the sea, lava that flows from a volcano, the flow of a stream, or the flow of blood running through our veins, and then there is being in full flow or going with the flow which is more the type of flow I am referring to. Life can have a sense of flow if we tune ourselves into the energy within us to allow that to occur. I recently read a wonderful, inspiring book called, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, that looks at the ways in which living in a ‘state of consciousness’ can enable ‘optimal experience’ that greatly improves the quality of our lives and illuminates the way to true happiness!

Until I stumbled across Sophrology, I had very little understanding of what the ‘awareness of consciousness in harmony’ meant or how our bodies and minds are capable of being so finely tuned that when we include small but meaningful changes everyday it can significantly impact our lives and that can be transformational! Intuitive Living Guide
- Ditch the negative thinking – remaining positive in times of adversity will make you feel empowered and improves your overall state of mind so you can feel less overwhelmed. When stress and pressure in life get too much, being more positive makes the future brighter!
- Honour your values – live your life by your own set of values can feel very empowering, boosts your self-esteem, confidence and sense of fulfilment which is important for you to navigate through life’s issues. Think about the principles that inspire you and write them down.
- Respect your body & mind – take time for you, have a relaxing bubble bath or try a holistic practice like yoga or Pilates because we can be so focused on getting through each day we forget to pause, breathe and rest so make a ‘self-care tool-box’ for your own wellbeing.
- Make peace with yourself – perhaps past experiences have left you with unresolved issues, so think about how you would treat someone you cared about and apply that to yourself because you deserve it! Spend quality time outdoors, go for stroll or try forest bathing.
- Challenge life’s issues – this is for those of us that often say yes when we should say no, and the fear of not wanting to let people down or being afraid of missing out, but it’s about listening to what feels right for you and not taking unnecessary responsibility for other people.
- Include pleasure and satisfaction – think about something you have always wanted to do but never really took the time to explore it, such as a hobby or learning a new skill. Meet up with close friends or join a group activity, or just go out and have some unadulterated fun!
- Coping better with emotions – release your thoughts by writing them in your journal or diary as this will take the pressure off and include gratitude because that can have a meaningful impact on your sense of wellbeing, boost your mood, lower anxiety and stress levels.
- Be present everyday – the Buddhists knew a thing or two about meditation so try a meditation or mindfulness practice because just 15mins a day has the capacity to completely transform your way of thinking or try my easy ‘Mood Lifting Exercise’ below.
- Include ‘joyful’ movement – start with a short walk, run or dance rather than a full body workout and if that works then move on to resistance training or aerobic exercise as these are all great for your wellbeing, plus you could lose a few pounds in the process…joy!
- Make healthy food choices – so much of our mental health is linked to what we eat, so no matter what your age, making great foodie choices will benefit you from the inside out which along with the measures in this guide will enable you to ‘activate your flow’.
